First Week Back

With the grand opening of the new Scandling Campus Center on Monday, there will be an entire week’s worth of events to keep you coming back to one of the coolest new spots on campus. From rock performances to a slam poet, check out all the events listed below:

Monday: Kick-Off Events

Scandling Campus Center Grand Opening

1 p.m. – In front of Scandling Center, Cake and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with a few words from President Mark D. Gearan. (Rain location: the Vandervort Room.)

1:30-3 p.m. – Guided tours of the building and light snacks shortly after the president’s speech.

Tuesday: Funtastic Tuesday Events

Noon-3 p.m. – Guided tours of Scandling Center and light, healthy snacks provided by Sodexho.

4-7 p.m. – Field Day Frenzy will take place on the Quad – sign up to take part in a series of fierce and friendly competitions, like Co-Ed Tug of War, while enjoying DJ Dennis.

(Field Day’s rain location: Bristol Field House.)

7:30 p.m. – The Phoenix Players’ skit performance in the Vandervort Room

8 p.m. – Jim Karol, Psychic Madman of NBC’s “Phenomenon,” will perform in the Vandervort Room.

Wednesday: Vendor Day Events

Noon-3 p.m. – Guided tours of Scandling Center and light, healthy snacks provided by Sodexho.

Noon – Tie Dye at Lunch Time outside of Scandling Campus Center, sponsored by CAB.

The day’s featured vendors include:

6:30-8 p.m. – a jazz band will perform in the Vandervort Room with light refreshments.

Thursday: Creative Arts Day Events

Noon-3 p.m. – Guided tours of Scandling Center and light, healthy snacks provided by Sodexho.

5 p.m. – On Stern Lawn, join the Colleges for Convocation with public intellectual and author Eric Liu as this year’s convocation speaker. (Convocation rain location is Bristol Gym.)

8-9:30 p.m. – CAB presents Open Mic with Professional Songwriters Workshop in the
New Café.

9:30-11 p.m. – Kate Klim, a pianist-singer-songwriter, perform in the New Café.

Limited “Green Mugs” will be raffled off and students will receive select coffee specials.

Friday: Free for All Friday Events

Noon-3 p.m. – Guided tours of Scandling Center and light, healthy snacks provided by Sodexho.

5-7 p.m. – the Involvement Expo will take place on the Quad. Set up is at 4 p.m. Clubs, organizations and offices on campus will display their services. At the event, DJ Dennis will spin tunes and popsicles will be served.

7 p.m. – Simplelife, along with special guests, will give a Live from Geneva performance on the Quad. The event is sponsored by the New York State Music Fund. (Rain location is the Vandervort Room.)

9:00 p.m. – Enjoy fireworks over the Quad by Young Explosives. (Rain date is the next day, Saturday, Sept. 6 at 9 p.m.)

10 p.m.-2 a.m. – Late Night DDR and Wii Sports in the Vandervort Room.

Saturday: Community Day Events

2-7 p.m. – CAB Carnival and Multicultural Celebration will take place in the Medbery parking lot. Join us for a jam-packed day of fun, food and freebies!

  • Rides include: Ferris Wheel, Giant Slide, Octopus and Rock Wall.
  • Make Your Own Activities: HWS Stuff A plush, Airbrush Tattoos and Caricatures
  • Carnival treats include: Sno Cones, Popcorn and Cotton Candy
  • Knit Out sponsored by Hillel, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Close Knit.

6-7:30 p.m. – Multi-Cultural Tasting Event with performances by Hipnotiqs, Tango and Belly Dancing in the Vandervort Room.

8-9:30 p.m. – Spoken Word Slam Poet Travis Watkins will perform in the Vandervort Room.

10:30 p.m.-2 a.m. – The Sankofa Late Night Welcome Back Dance Party featuring American Pop-Star: Make Your Own MTV Video in the Vandervort Room
