Gift to establish endowed scholarship fund
Geneva, N.Y. — Beatrice Stahl Biggs lived a long and philanthropic life, supporting her alma mater William Smith College since her graduation in 1926. Despite her passing, Stahl Biggs' legacy and support will carry on. The Rochester native has left the College $634,189 to establish the Irene Russell Stahl Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in memory of Stahl Biggs' mother.
Biggs was a graduate of East High School in Rochester, N.Y. As a William Smith student, she was active in Little Theatre, the French Club, and was associate editor of The Pine. She graduated with a double major in French and Spanish and went on to serve as secretary for the Rochester Board of Education. She was active in the Rochester chapter of the William Smith Alumnae Association, the Century Club of Rochester and the University Club. She died at 100 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, John, and son, John Benjamin Biggs, and is survived by cousins.
The scholarship she established is to be awarded annually to a William Smith student with strong academic achievement and financial need and has already been disbursed for the first time.
