The William Smith College tennis team finished its play in the Mary Hosking Invitational today. Senior Chelsea Rauck and first-year Joanie Hilton won the A Flight consolation doubles championship for the Herons.
Rauck and Hilton defeated Sarah Joo and Stephanie Tu from NYU 8-5 to win the bracket. Rauck also played in the A Flight singles championship, but fell to Skidmore’s Rachel Loeb in a close match, 8-6, after defeating St. Lawrence’s Hillary Drewry 8-5 in the semifinals.
Junior Meredith Levenson played in the C Flight championship match, but fell to Thoroughbred Caroline Sherman 8-1. Levenson edged Lindsay Hartley, also from Skidmore, 8-6 in the semifinals to advance.
In the B Flight doubles bracket, Levenson and classmate Shari Damon barely lost in the semifinal match to eventual champions Amanda Freedman and Lisa Mijovic from NYU, 9-8.
The Herons will be in action again on Sept. 21, when they host St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
