Family Weekend, an HWS tradition, will be celebrated from Friday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 5 with an assortment of activities, including athletics, academics and a wide variety of outlets for the arts.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the opening reception of “In/Out: Paintings from Zeuxis” will be held in the Houghton House gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. The paintings in this show come to HWS from Zeuxis, a national association of highly respected still-life painters drawn together by their shared fascination with painting from observation and with the storied tradition of the genre.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. until noon, campus tours will be given every hour and will take parents and families around the campus, showcasing academic buildings, the new Scandling Center and remodeled library and the buildings at the Houghton House estate, including the new Katherine D. Elliott Studio Arts Center and the Goldstein Family Carriage House. For those who can’t make the tours, there will be an open house at the Elliott Studio Arts Center from 1 to 3 p.m.
Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., seven professional dance artists from the Finger Lakes Region will perform a diverse assortment of choreography, from theatrical and comical to dramatic and abstract, at the Smith Opera House. Finger Lakes Dance is appropriate for dance enthusiasts of all ages. Tickets are $5 per person. There will be an intermission in the lobby from 9 to 9:30 p.m., with coffee and dessert, which is sponsored by the Parents Association.
From 9:30 to 11 p.m., HWS Cabaret will be held, this year at the Smith Opera House for the first time. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the fifth annual Cabaret Show is the finale of the weekend, featuring a showcase of sizzlin’ student talent for the whole family!
Arrival and Registration: Registration will be held in the Warren Hunting Smith Library atrium, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3; and 7:30 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Bon Appétit!: Meals will be offered throughout the weekend to families at the Great Hall of Saga in the Scandling Campus Center. Tickets should be pre-purchased and can be obtained online at www.hws.edu/parents or by contacting Kerry Cassell at (315) 781-3755. Additional specialty meals are offered at locations around campus.

Mini College classes, a variety of 50-minute sessions taught by HWS faculty and staff, are offered at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Please indicate on the registration form which courses you plan to attend.
