Landahl, Styer earn Liberty League awards

William Smith College seniors Kelsey Landahl and Charlotte Styer were named the Liberty League Field Hockey Offensive and Co-Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively. They played key roles in William Smith’s wins over Ithaca 6-1, Oberlin 6-1, and Stevenson 5-1.

Landahl had a team-high nine points last week. She scored the game-winner in the rout of the Yeowomen on Saturday. The following afternoon, she had a hand in four of the Herons’ five goals against the Mustangs, notching her first career hat trick, while also earning an assist. The seven-point performance is tied for eighth place on William Smith’s single game list, two off the record.

Landahl is tied for second on the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists this season. She is tied for fifth in the conference in points, tied for sixth in goals, and tied for ninth in assists.

Styer recorded four assists and helped limit the opposition to just 10 shots on goal last week. She and her teammates held Ithaca to just six SOGs, while Styer set up a pair of Heron scores in the rout of the Bombers on Wednesday. Three days later, she again set up two goals and helped hold Oberlin to just a single shot on goal. Styer capped the weekend with a defensive save as William Smith limited Stevenson to only three shots on goal.

Styer is tied for the Liberty League lead with four assists this season. Her defensive save against the Mustangs is the 12th of her career, the most ever by a William Smith player.

The Herons (6-0) begin Liberty League play on Sept. 26, when they travel to Vassar. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
