Singer-songwriter Jason LeVasseur will return to HWS for a night of music on Saturday, Feb. 28. Many have heard his hit “The Driver is the DJ,” and others will recall his performances at the Cellar Pub or last year during Shabbat. Next weekend, his return performance will take place at 7 p.m. in the Scandling Campus Center.
LeVasseur has been a hit on the college circuit: in 2008, he was voted “Best Male Performer of the Year” by Campus Activities Magazine and “Best Solo Artist” by The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities. His sound has been described as acoustic/folk-rock/indie-pop.
Though LeVasseur was born in the U.S., he spent much of his childhood in Mexico and Belgium and studied French, Spanish, and Italian in Italy, before returning to college in the states. His travels have clearly influenced his playing style, since he draws on many of his adventures for his folk narratives.
“Audience members actually come up to this guy after gigs to share stories and ask for advice…[he] has a bit of quiet, learned-the-hard-way wisdom in that drawling, weathered, warm voice of his. He writes about easily recognizable situations in language anyone can connect with,” said Jennifer Layton of Indie-Music.com
