William Smith harriers earn 16th-straight academic honor

The William Smith College cross country team was recently honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Herons were named a NCAA Division III USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team for the 16th year in a row.

To be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have competed and registered a team score at an NCAA Regional meet, and must have at least a 3.1 team cumulative grade point average. Out of 394 Division III institutions that sponsor women’s cross country, 156 schools received the honor this year.

William Smith began the season with a fourth-place finish at the SUNYIT Invitational, and went on to win the Hobart Invitational and take third in the Cross Country Only Conference Championships later in the season. Junior Katie Pietrak posted team-best times in both 5-kilometer (20:02) and 6-k (26:10) races to lead the Herons.
