A number of Hobart alums returned to their alma mater for a weekend of camaraderie and friendly competition. Former basketball players Josh Ryan ’00, Brian Bernard ’01, Hobart basketball coach Izzie Metz ’98, Rob Pisanelli ’00, assistant coach Duncan Paddick ’07, Rich Kolmetz ’77, and assistant coach Carl Wenzel joined forces with the current Hobart basketball team to shoot some hoops and catch up with friends.
Every year, former Hobart athletes are invited to campus for such an event.
“It’s a great way for alums to keep in touch with the program,” says Wenzel. “They get together, meet the new team, and have a fun weekend.”
“The best part is seeing old friends,” said Kolmetz, “and being able to support Izzie and the basketball program.”
While these alums were dribbling and shooting, another reunion was taking place at the Geneva Recreation Center in the Cooler for former Hobart hockey players. Peter Thompson ’89, David Weinstock ’91, Brian Cibelli ’08, and John Swift ’07, just a few of the returning players. Weinstock, now a doctor, and who majored in biology at HWS, joked, “I just came to see if I could still play!”
Their general consensus, however, was the same: the best part was reuniting with old friends on the ice.
