Black Quoted on Airing ‘Democracy Now’

Mike Black, general manager of WEOS-FM (88.1, 89.7, 90.3), airs the news program Democracy Now. But locally, he's one of the few, according to the article “Making Waves” in the April 1 issue of Syracuse New Times.

Black said that listener reaction was mixed when his station first aired Democracy Now! “As many people tuned out as tuned in,” he said. “Now more tune in than tune out. There's nothing lukewarm. Listeners either love {Goodman} or they hate her. Ontario County is very conservative, but we get a very strong response, in part, because we're heard in Ithaca, an activist area. Throughout the Finger Lakes many people have activist roots.”
