International Business Careers

As business becomes an increasingly international industry, the Colleges will welcome David Lenihan ’72, P’12, a member of the Board of Directors of Hx Technologies, Inc. and Performance Health Technologies, Inc., to deliver a Dinner Talk at the in the home of President Mark D. Gearan and Mary Herlihy Gearan on Thursday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. His talk is titled “International Business and Entrepreneurism.”

Lenihan has extensive experience in investment and commercial banking, financial asset management, healthcare information technology and government/diplomacy, where he held a Top Secret clearance.

He is the former CEO of Hx Technologies, a Philadelphia based technology company that enables the sharing of medical images inter-institutionally. This technology is used by healthcare payers to avoid the expense of duplicate and avoidable radiology expenses and by providers to be able to “google” relevant health data held securely in health institutions, and to allow the re-use of that data in personal health records, electronic health records and other clinically relevant uses.

Lenihan was instrumental in building crucial partnerships with IBM and other partners, securing funding and large health plan client relationships, and positioning the company on its business plan and for its eventual sale.

Prior to Hx Technologies, he was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of CareGain, a software technology company based in East Windsor, N.J. He led the company from inception in 2001 until its sale to Fiserv Health (nasdaq: FISV) in January 2006. CareGain provided enterprise software solutions to health plans and third party administrators enabling them to enter the Consumer Directed Health (CDH) marketplace quickly and efficiently for both plan design and administration of these new health benefit products. CareGain’s platform is powering the CDH products of the Blue Bank and NASCO (Blue Cross Blue Shield companies), CIGNA, HealthNet and others. CareGain is the CDH Solution Partner of America’s Health Insurance Plans.

Lenihan is a frequent speaker at health care conferences and in Congress on the subject of Consumer Directed Healthcare and on more efficient ways to operate the healthcare system in the U.S. He is a guest lecturer at the Harvard Business School and at the Johnson School of Cornell University.

While at Hobart, he majored in economics and political science, he also served as chairman of Hobart Student Court and was a member of the Statesmen track team, earning the Most Value Player Award.

A strong supporter of HWS, Lenihan established the David Lenihan ’72 Endowed Scholarship Fund in 2007 and previously assisted in the establishment of the John R.O. Mc Kean Endowed Scholarship Fund. In addition, Lenihan will return to campus as the keynote speaker at the 2009 Charter Day ceremony held on Saturday, April 18 at 10:45 a.m. in St. John’s Chapel.
