Careers in Event Planning

Chris Coffin ’83, general manager of the Doubletree Guest Suites-Boston, will return to campus to deliver his second Professionals-in-Residence lecture, titled “Careers in Hospitality and Event Planning.” The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 in Stern 304.

Since joining Hilton Hotels Corporation in 1998, Coffin has specialized in repositioning distressed operations into profitable and service-oriented organizations through strong analytical and organizational skills and aggressive hands-on leadership.

The following day, Friday April 10, Coffin will offer one-on-one coaching sessions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students who are interested in finding out more about a career in hospitality and event planning.

Coffin earned his B.A. in Economics from Hobart, and is currently involved with alumni relations. He earned a master’s degree in hotel administration from Cornell University. Prior to becoming general manager, he held a variety of titles in the hotel industry ranging from room service manager to director of rooms at the Omni Park Central in New York City.  In 2004, he was appointed “Cluster GM of the Year” by the Boston Area Hilton Family of Hotels.
