Colleges’ Students Compete in Russian Olympiada

Four HWS students traveled to Syracuse University on April 3 to compete in the third annual New York State Collegiate Olympiada of Spoken Russian. HWS, which hosted the event in 2003, competed against six other schools in the day-long event: Cornell University, Hamilton College, SUNY-Binghamton, Syracuse University, Union College, and the United States Military Academy. Russian language students Jennifer Robustelli (William Smith '07), Ted Cook (Hobart '07), Christopher Duffy (Hobart '07), and Robert Stevenson (Hobart '07) were tested on their active language skills in four events. The students competed especially well in the poem recitation and biographical monologue events. Russian Area Studies faculty members David Galloway and Kristen Welsh participated as judges.
