Heron tennis sweeps RIT, 9-0

The William Smith tennis team swept visiting RIT 9-0 in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The victory, the team’s sixth in eight tries, is the fifth sweep for the Herons this season.

Senior Chelsea Rauck and first-year Joanie Hilton fought off Amanda Berg and Brianne Francisco at first doubles, prevailing 9-7 for their team-leading 11th win of the season.Sophomores Amanda Slack and Melissa Slack and first-years Casey Kennedy and Jess McCue won with comparative ease, 8-2 and 8-3 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively.

In singles action, Rauck, Amanda Slack, Kennedy, Hilton, and Melissa Slack won in straight sets at No. 1 through No. 5, respectively. First-year Katie Serock outlasted Lindsey Gibson 2-6, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 6.

William Smith will be back in action on April 5, when the Herons face nationally-ranked Skidmore. The match against the No. 25 Thoroughbreds is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
