The Student Life and Leadership Office proudly presents the Leader of the Month Award for the month of March 2004 to Sabra Williams.
Sabra Williams is an outstanding nominee to be awarded the Student Leader of the Month Award. Williams has exhibited her leadership abilities through her involvement in a variety of activities at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Her commitment to the Asian Student Union (ASU) has been witnessed by her dedication to this small group which led to ASU's revival in the fall of 2001. Hobart and William Smith does not have a large population of Asian and/or Asian American students on campus, hence the membership to ASU is small. However, there is a great interest in Asian cultures within the non-Asian student population. Through ASU's efforts to keep the spirit of this organization alive and thriving on campus, they are able to educate other HWS students about their cause.
In the spring of 2003, Williams was unanimously elected to become the president of the Asian Student Union. At this time, Williams was a fresh voice to this particular position and was able to use this energy to make an impact on the other students with whom she works. Williams's commitment and genuine interest in the Asian Student Union is seen through her involvement and dedication in involving the other members of her organization when planning, organizing, and executing their programs and events.
In addition to Williams' leadership of the Asian Student Union, she is a member of the Colleges' Woodwind Ensemble, and participated in the Koshare Student Dance Concert. She is a member of Anime Central, lay-out editor of SCRY!, not to mention being a strong student academically.
Overall, Williams is a student leader at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She is a student who sees the value in making a difference on campus.
