The William Smith College tennis team defeated Ithaca 6-3 tonight at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University. The Herons improve to 10-4 overall, while the Bombers slip to 14-7.
Senior Chelsea Rauck led the Herons at first singles and first doubles. She defeated Ithaca’s Devra Reiman 6-2, 6-2 in singles action, and teamed up with first-year Joanie Hilton for an 8-2 win over Natalie Jenereski and Agata Kubik in doubles.
First-year Casey Kennedy picked up her team-leading 15th victory of the season, downing Alyssa Jaffe at third singles 6-1, 5-7, 10-6. Hilton earned the win at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Melissa Slack won at No. 5.
Melissa Slack joined her sister, sophomore Amanda Slack, for the 8-3 victory at second doubles over Melanie Cohen and Melissa Nunezs, rounding out the Herons’ scoring.
William Smith will be back in action April 25-26, when the Herons travel to Vassar to compete in the Liberty League Championships.
