Acclaimed author Eric Lax was featured on Booknotes for his new book “The Mold in Dr. Florey’s Coat: The Story of the Penicillin Miracle” May 2. In the book, Lax tells the real story behind the discovery of penicillin and why it took so long to develop the drug. He reveals the reasons why credit for penicillin was misplaced, and why this achievement garnered a Nobel Prize but no financial rewards for Alexander Fleming, Florey, and his team. A transcript of the interview is available, as well as video of the program (uses Real Player). Lax is a member of the Hobart Class of 1966. Booknotes is C-SPAN's author interview series.
