Young Recognized for Service

The New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) presented John Young, director of admissions at HWS, with the Distinguished Service Award at its annual conference this summer. The organization annually recognizes one high school and one college admission professional for service to the organization and to the profession.

“My thanks to President Gearan and the HWS Admissions staff.  Their support has allowed me to contribute to NYSACAC on behalf of Hobart and William Smith.  We have a long tradition of involvement with NYSACAC and this award recognizes that commitment,” said Young.

Young graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in history, and held admissions positions at Colgate and Skidmore College before joining the HWS staff in 2005. He is co-chair of the school/college relations committee of the NYSACAC and is on the admissions practices committee. He has been a chief delegate and has been involved with the Summer Institute, a four-day program for admissions officers and college counselors new to the profession.  HWS have hosted NYSACAC’s Annual Conference (2007) and the Camp College Program (2006 and 2009) that helps underserved students prepare for college admission.
