Day on the Hill: Apps Due Oct. 19

On Thursday, Jan. 7 and Friday, Jan. 8, the HWS Political Science Department and the Salisbury Center for Career Services present the annual Day on the Hill, an exciting event for students who want to learn more about the world of politics from many different angles.

If interested in attending, please complete the application form and return it to the Salisbury Center for Career Services at Trinity Hall by Monday, Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

HWS faculty DeWayne Lucas and Iva Deutchman of the Political Science Department will be guide students around Washington, D.C. for an eventful day that will include speakers from the following areas:

  • Congress
  • National Republican Senatorial Committee
  • City Council
  • Various political officials
  • Political Consulting and Public Relations
  • A tour of the White House by a member of the Secret Service
  • and much more!

In addition, day two will involve site visits to organizations that will give you a bird’s eye view of working in D.C. sites include the Democratic National Committee, Republican National Committee, Center for American Progress, Chemonics and more.

A lunch will be held where students can network with other alumni and alumnae in D.C.  There will be a $15 charge, due in advance, for the luncheon.  Programming for Day on the Hill will also include an evening networking reception attended by more alums that work on the Hill through the HWS D.C. Club annual holiday party.

There are a limited number of students selected to participate due to space restrictions of the organizations.  If you are invited to attend, you will be responsible for getting to Washington, D.C. and meeting the group at the designated time and place.

Day one will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude after the reception.  Day two’s events conclude at 5 p.m.  A block of rooms at the Washington Court Hotel in D.C. will be reserved for any students interested; however travel and accommodations are at each student’s own expense.  A room rate of $189/night has been negotiated for program participants.
