Hobart College senior Ben Flanagan won the 114-runner Cross Country Only Conference (CCOC) Championships today, breaking both the course and meet records for the second year in a row. He finished the 8-kilometer course through Seneca Lake State Park in a time of 25 minutes, 29.81 seconds, topping his previous standard from the 2008 CCOC Championship (25:45) by 16 seconds.
Flanagan’s performance led the Statesmen to a third-place team finish in the 14-team field.
First-year Briton Claridge was the next Hobart runner to finish. He placed 18th with a time of 28:09.26, while senior Tom Harty followed close behind in 20th place with a time of 28:14.77. Juniors Evan Turner and Ross Hicks posted times of 29:13.19 (31st place) and 29:45.63 (37th), respectively. All four Statesmen posted new season-best times with their performances today.
The Hobart harriers will be back in action on Oct. 24, when the Statesmen compete in the Saratoga Invitational at noon.
