The 20th-ranked Hobart College soccer team defeated Union 2-1 this afternoon in Liberty League action at College Park. The Statesmen improve to 11-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the conference, while the Dutchmen drop to 9-5-2 on the season and 3-3-0 in the Liberty League.
Union struck first, as Dan Dubrow headed in a corner kick from Kyle Riter in the 28th minute.
Hobart got on the board in the 35th minute when senior Grant Morrison (Gleniffer/Paisley Scotland) ripped a shot from about 25 yards out. A Dutchman defender tried to clear but misplayed it, heading the ball into the back of the net.
First-year Taylor Jones scored the game-winner for the Statesmen in the 61st minute. Sophomore Tommy Hayes crossed the ball to him for a shot directly in front of the goal. The tally was the first of Jones’ collegiate career.
Union held a 14-11 advantage in shots, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Hobart sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Hale collected six saves for the win, while Mike Szczesniak stopped one shot for the Dutchmen.
The Statesmen will wrap up their regular season schedule on Oct. 31, when they host Liberty League foe Hamilton at 11:30 a.m.
