The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team defeated Brockport State 4-1 in a non-league game at Tuttle North Arena tonight. The Statesmen improve to 2-2-1 overall, while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-3-0 on the season.
Junior Christopher Bower led Hobart’s offense with a goal and two assists. He had a hand in the first goal of the game just 28 seconds into the action, he set up junior Danny Organ to give the Statesmen an early 1-0 lead. Senior Gregory Alberti also assisted on the play.
In the ninth minute of the first period, Bower lit the lamp with the eventual game-winner. The tally marked his third of the season and second game-winner. First-year Brad Richard recorded the helper.
Tom Galiani scored Brockport’s only goal of the game in the 18th minute of the first, cutting Hobart’s lead to 2-1.
First-year Chris Cannizzaro and senior Nick DeCroo added two more for the Statesmen in the second period, giving Hobart a 4-1 cushion heading into the third stanza. Cannizzaro scored on a power play at the 3:40 mark, set up by sophomore Greg Ciciola and junior Kyle Whitaker, while DeCroo tallied in the 17th minute off assists from senior Bryant Harris and Bower.
First-year goalie Nick Broadwater collected 22 saves for the Statesmen to grab his second win of the year, while Oliver Wren stopped 38 shots for the Golden Eagles.
Hobart outshot Brockport 42-23. The Statesmen were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Golden Eagles were 0-for-7.
The Hobart hockey team will be back in action on Nov. 13, when the Statesmen host Lebanon Valley for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
