Hobart runners earn academic honors

Four Hobart College cross country runners were recently named to the Liberty League Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.

To earn a spot on the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and be at least a sophomore academically. The following Statesmen were named to the 2009 All-Academic squad:

• Senior Matt DiBetta, economics major
• Junior Ross Hicks, public policy and environmental studies double major
• Sophomore Steve Manker, undeclared
• Sophomore Shaun Viguerie, undeclared

The Hobart cross country team wrapped the 2009 season at the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 14. The squad posted two team victories this fall, winning the SUNYIT Invitational and the Hobart Invitational. The Statesmen also finished third in the Cross Country Only Conference Championships, and sixth at the Houghton Invitational.

Additionally, senior Ben Flanagan ran his way to a spot in the NCAA National Championships, held on Nov. 21, 2009, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is just the fourth Statesmen to earn a spot in the national championship meet.
