Bienvenue à la Taste of France!

HWS Colleges invite students, faculty, and staff to be the guest of Chef Patrick Masson for ‘A Taste of France’ at Saga on Thursday, Feb. 18. The dinner will feature many of Masson’s savory dishes and will be open to local chefs. Those attending will have the opportunity to speak with Masson during dinner.

In addition, a V.I.P. lunch for faculty and staff will take place on Friday, Feb. 19. The same day, Masson will lecture students of Professor of French Catherine Gallouët’s French in Review course in the art of French cooking from 11:15 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. In addition, selected students will be treated to a cooking demonstration at the Office of Intercultural Affairs from 3 – 5:30 p.m.

“Students can learn about French culture by trying something new, celebrating diversity and, of course, by enjoying delicious food,” explains General Manager of Dining Services Lynn Pelkey.

Masson is the first French chef to participate in Sodexo’s Global Chef Program and the first Global Chef to visit HWS. Pelkey applied to the Global Chefs program last year and, over winter break, learned that Chef Patrick Masson would be joining HWS for two days of French cuisine.

“This isn’t Americanized ‘French’ food,” explains Pelkey. “These are authentic French recipes that will provide a real-world, cross-cultural experience for students, faculty, and staff.”

This will be Masson’s first trip to Central New York State. “We hope that Chef Masson will get a glimpse of the sense of family and community at HWS and in the greater Geneva community,” says Pelkey. She and other staff members will introduce Masson to Geneva with a campus and city tour, including Seneca Lake and restaurants downtown.

Classically-trained, Masson learned his craft from some of France’s most highly regarded chefs and holds degrees in the hotel and hospitality industry. Masson has worked in such top restaurants as Le Rampart, a Michelin star-winning restaurant, as well as hotels in France, Tunisia and England. He also spent time at The Bistrot in the Park restaurant in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
