Fundraising for the third annual Relay for Life, an event co-hosted by the Colleges and the American Cancer Society, has begun.
February started off with a bang when Chi-Phi Fraternity teamed up with Colleges Against Cancer to host its fifth Annual Charity Ball. The event “Hope Ball: A Lavender Tie Affair” was a great success, spreading awareness and raising $2,100 toward the HWS goal of $50,000.
At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 team captains will meet at Hope House on South Main Street. At the meeting, information will be provided on team recruitment, fundraising, and details for the night of Relay for Life. Snacks will be provided and any other questions can be addressed.
The Relay for Life Committee also is preparing for the “Paint Your Campus Purple” event which will be held in the first week in March. The event kicks off the Relay season by giving campus a purple makeover. For one week, the Colleges will join other colleges and universities across the nation and ‘cover’ the campus in purple – the signature color of Relay. Those events will be announced later.
This year, the annual event will take place on Saturday, April 10 in Bristol Gymnasium. At the relay, teams camp out in the gym and take turns walking or running around a track. To create your Relay team, go to www.relayforlife.org/hobartwilliamsmithcollege and sign up today.
