McGuire ’83 Reporting Live from Olympics

Hobart alum R. Pierre McGuire ’83 is covering men’s hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics, live from Vancouver, for NBC.  An ice hockey analyst providing regular commentary for The Sports Network (TSN) and NBC, McGuire provided rinkside reporting for the United States/Switzerland Men’s Group A hockey game.

This is McGuire’s second time covering the Olympics, as he reported on the 2002 games in Salt Lake City.

McGuire is the lead “Inside the Glass” analyst for “NHL on NBC” and writes a hockey column for Sports Illustrated.

An English major while at HWS, McGuire was a member of the Statesmen ice hockey, football and squash teams, as well as a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity.  After graduation he played professional hockey in Europe for a year before he returning the HWS to coach Hobart hockey.  He has also coached at Babson College and St. Lawrence University, and served as a scouter for the Pittsburgh Penguins, head coach of the Hartford Whalers and assistant coach in the Ottawa Senators organization.

McGuire began his broadcasting career as a commentator for Montreal Canadiens and as an analyst for the Ottawa Senators.  He has since won several awards for his work and was named one of hockey’s 100 most powerful and influential people six times by The Hockey News.
