Are you interested in joining AmeriCorps? Looking to find out more about what AmeriCorps entails? Hobart and William Smith Colleges will hold an AmeriCorps panel on Wednesday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Trinity Hall 305.
A number of AmeriCorps panelists, including current students and alums who are involved with the program, will be present to share information about AmeriCorps, their personal experiences, and to field questions.
Since 1993, AmeriCorps, which offers 75,000 positions annually, has totaled more than 500,000 volunteers working to improve America through programs dealing with education, public service and civic engagement. Comprised of three main divisions (AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps VISTA, and AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps), AmeriCorps offers plenty of exciting opportunities for students who are looking to gain new skills and experiences. In addition to the satisfaction brought by taking part in the experience, full-time members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. Members who serve part-time receive a partial Award. Some AmeriCorps members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service.
If you’re interested or just curious, be sure to stop by this informational panel and find out if AmeriCorps is right for you!
