Sailors record two top-10 finishes

The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team placed fourth out of eight at Georgetown’s John Jackson Team Race Regatta and finished seventh of 17 at the Navy Spring Women’s Regatta over the weekend.

At Georgetown, HWS was led by senior skippers John Sampson, John Moulthrop, and Ned Turney, as well as junior David Thompson, sophomore Austen Anderson, and sophomore Sam Blouin. They were joined by crew senior Meghan Jordan, first-year Bridget Nannig, sophomore Chris Klevan, and junior Hannah Littell to combine for a 10-7 record in the round robin format.

Junior Caroline Patten and senior Emily Pelo paced the Herons at Navy. They sailed to an eighth-place finish in the A division with a score of 141, and placed in the top-6 in nine of 17 races. In the B division, junior Sarah Yuskaitis and sophomore Aimee Kelleher teamed up for 10th place with a score of 145. They finished in the top-10 11 times.

The HWS sailing team will be back on the water March 20-21, when it competes in the Truxton Umstead Regatta at Navy, the St. Mary’s Women’s Regatta, and the MAISA Team Race Challenge at Merchant Marine.
