Justice Jeffrey Amestoy '68 is resigning as Vermont’s Chief Justice, effective as of August. A Republican, he is famous for the landmark ruling allowing civil unions in Vermont. His plans are to spend this fall as a fellow at Harvard University teaching classes at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. A number of articles were written concerning his resignation in the Rutland Herald (Rutland, Vt.), including the following: Amestoy's legacy; Douglas vows to appoint justice, even if he loses; Vermont's chief justice to step down; and Trial judge likely to fill Supreme Court vacancy.
