The William Smith College tennis team defeated New York University 6-3 today at the HWS Tennis Center. The Herons improve to 8-3 overall, while the Violets drop to 3-7 on the season.
In singles action, sophomore Joanie Hilton handled Tiffany Thong 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, while junior Melissa Slack topped Sara Joo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Additionally, senior Shari Damon picked up the victory at No. 5, and first-year Remy Raevsky won by forfeit at No. 6.
Raevsky did get to play doubles, teaming up with sophomore Katie Serock for an 8-3 victory over Thong and Joo at No. 2. Melissa and her sister, Amanda Slack, got the forfeit win at No. 3.
The William Smith tennis team will be back in action tomorrow, April 12, when the Herons travel to RIT for a match at 4 p.m.
