The Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) was featured in the Aug. 4 Hamilton and Morrisville Tribune (Cazenovia, N.Y.) article “College offers students a chance through HEOP.” According to the article, HEOP is one of the most successful opportunity programs in New York State, offering a unique chance for students to attend a private college or university who would not otherwise attend college because of financial and academic circumstances.
“The program was built on the foundation that if given a chance all students can succeed,” said Edith Hunt, assistant director for intercultural affairs. “The program levels the playing field so that all students will have a turn at the plate. HEOP levels the playing field by making it financially possible to attend a college. Without financial support from the state, it would not be feasible for them to attend college.”
