Each semester HWS partners with Finger Lakes Health to provide pre-health students with the opportunity to participate in local clinical internships. Since the program began in 1993, students have been able to explore health professions in a variety of specialties including local hospitals, health centers, pharmacies, and private practices (dental, optometry, physical therapy, veterinary, etc.).
The program aims to give students the opportunity to pursue their academic interests alongside professionals in the field, while teaching students the values of commitment and responsibility in the professional world as they explore career options.
Requirements for participation in the program include that a student be of sophomore, junior, or senior status at the Colleges and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 for medical areas or 2.8 for allied health/non-medical areas. Interested students must also complete an interview and recommendation process with HWS and Finger Lakes Health staff, as well as attend a training session.
The informational meeting for students interested in the fall 2010 Health Professions Clinical Internships Program will take place this Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity 305. Students can confirm attendance to firstname.lastname@example.org.
