Herons shut out Colby-Sawyer

Sophomore Renee Jensen scored two goals and earned an assist to lead the No. 16 William Smith soccer team to a 5-0 win over Colby-Sawyer in a non-conference game played on the final day of the 2010 Nazareth Tournament this afternoon. The Herons improve to 3-0 overall, and Colby-Sawyer is now 1-2-1.

The Herons dominated the game right from the beginning. Senior BreLynn Nasypany scored the first goal just two minutes, 25 seconds in. It was her fourth goal of the season.

At the 12:23 mark, junior Chelsea England scored her first goal of the year off an assist from Renee Jensen. In the 19th minute, Jensen scored a goal of her own after collecting a pass from Nasypany. At 29:01, First-year Dana Jensen sent a pass ahead to junior Jessie Tarantino, who scored her first goal of the season to make it 4-0.

Two minutes, 44 seconds into the second half, Renee Jensen scored her second goal of the game for the final score. It was Jensen’s third goal this season.

First-year Chelsea Dunay played the opening 45 minutes in goal for the Herons and earned her first collegiate win. She made one save. Junior Amanda Davis came in for the second half and also recorded one save. Junior Allie Piper played the first half in goal for the Chargers, and tallied eight saves. Sophomore Shayln Spencer came in to play the second half and stopped seven shots.

William Smith enjoyed a huge 31-4 advantage in shots. The Herons took five corner kicks, and Colby-Sawyer recorded two.

The Herons will return to action on Sept. 11, when they host No. 25 Denison College for their home opener and the first game of the Heron Cup. Colby-Sawyer will host Castleton State College on Sept. 8.
