Golf Cart Giveaways?

Hobart and William Smith Colleges have not celebrated Homecoming for the past 18 years. The weekend of Friday, Sept. 24 promises to make up for lost time.

For the week leading up to Homecoming and Family Weekend, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be doing “golf cart giveaways.” From Tuesday Sept. 21, until Saturday the 25th, Joanna “JoJo” Vinick ’11, the president of CAB, and Lauren Morosy ’12, the Homecoming chair for CAB, will be riding around campus in a golf cart and asking students HWS trivia.

They will award prizes to students who are able to answer the trivia questions correctly. Winners will be able to choose between a Homecoming T-shirt (either purple or green), or a large foam finger (also purple or green). These giveaways will help students show their spirit at the football game against St. John Fisher College that Saturday.  Of course, those who don’t win shirts will be able to buy them at the Super Tailgate, located just outside the football stadium on game day, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Consolation prizes will also be given out during the golf cart giveaways. Those who don’t answer the questions correctly will still receive a pair of CAB sunglasses.

Students who live in houses will have another opportunity to show their passion for HWS through a decorating contest that asks them to deck out their houses in a way that shows their strong Hobart and William Smith spirit. For the students living in the residence halls, a smaller competition will take place where they will be able to decorate the doors to their rooms. Judging for the competition will take place a couple of days before the football game, and the prizes have yet to be determined, though rumors are that they are big!

CAB is also working closely with the Alumni House in planning the Annual Cabaret. Professional singer/songwriter David Binder, as well as the Colleges’ top student a cappella artists, poets, and musicians, will perform in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center from  9 to 11 p.m., on Friday the 24th.

CAB members have also stated that there will be many other surprises along the way!
