The weekend of Oct. 1-3 has a lot to offer at Hobart and William Smith.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, the Latin American Organization will host the Viva La Generación Dinner on Saturday in the Vandervort Room. Following the dinner there will be an after party at the Barn. If you appreciate good food, music and dancing, don’t miss out.
Continuing the Latin theme of the weekend, the Latino Film Festival will commence Friday at the Smith Opera House with a screening of “La Ciudad” by director David Riker, featuring four interwoven stories of Hispanic immigrants living in New York City. Additionally, there will be movies shown on Saturday and Sunday.
Aside from the Latin festivities there is much for the community to enjoy. This weekend bodes as a great chance to get out and cheer on the Herons, this Saturday as William Smith tennis and soccer teams take on Hamilton, while Field Hockey challenges Messiah. Out on the water the HWS Sailing team will host the Finger Lakes Women’s Intersectional on Seneca Lake.
Another match occurring on campus as well is the HWS Debate Team that will hold its first Debate Tournament of the year on Saturday and Sunday. The debates will be spread across campus, featuring some of the top programs in the country, including Cornell, Colgate, University of Vermont, Ohio Wesleyan, Kings College, and St. Johns.
In addition, the second annual Bocce Tournament will take place at the Sons of Italy in Geneva at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Wrapping up the weekend, Sunday is also a great chance to donate to a good cause; the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk will take place at the Waterloo Outlets.
These are just a few of the events being held this weekend. For a full listing of events see the HWS calendar.
