The William Smith tennis team defeated Hamilton 6-3 in the Herons’ first dual match of the season. Junior Casey Kennedy led the way with victories at second singles and second doubles.
William Smith came out of doubles play trailing 2-1 with Kennedy and senior Amanda Slack securing the lone point 8-3 over Vrinda Khanna and Megan Kelley.
Kennedy also defeated Khanna in singles action, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Joanie Hilton and sophomore Remy Raevsky also won in straight sets for William Smith at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
Sophomores Kiara Ocasio and Hallsey Leighton went three sets, but still emerged victorious. Ocasio rebounded after a first set 6-4 loss to win 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, while Leighton triumphed at No. 5 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
The Herons (1-0) will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, when they host St. John Fisher.
