Senior BreLynn Nasypany scored two goals and registered two assists to lead the 14th-ranked Herons to a 4-0 win over visiting Vassar College in a Liberty League game played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Herons improve to 8-2-2 and 2-0-2 in league play, while Vassar is now 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the league.
William Smith now holds an 11-0 lead in the all-time series with the Brewers. With her two goals and two assists, Nasypany now has 46 career goals to rank fourth on the program list. Her 25 career assists tie her with Kristin Perrigo ’04 for third place and her 117 career points tie her with Ann Haggerty ’93 for third.
Nasypany started off the scoring in the ninth minute. After a crossing pass from junior Kate Redmond from the left side, she fired the ball just inside the right post. In the 31st minute, sophomore Renee Jensen put the Herons up 2-0 with her fifth goal of the season. Nasypany fired a shot at the goal that was saved by the Vassar keeper, but she could not hold on to it. Jensen immediately fired the rebound into the back of the goal.
One minute, 55 seconds after the half, Nasypany scored her 11th goal of the season to put William Smith up by three. Junior Chelsea England sent a pass from the left side of the box to find Nasypany right in front. Redmond scored her second goal of the season in the 57th minute for the final margin. Nasypany sent a crossing pass from the right side to Redmond who fired one past the keeper from right in front.
Vassar earned a corner kick in the 68th minute. The Brewers had a chance to score, but a header by junior Alix Zongrone went wide of the goal. With 7:30 remaining, Vassar had another chance to get on the scoreboard when senior Lauren Bell fired a shot at goal, but William Smith first-year goalie Chelsea Dunay was there to make the save.
Junior Amanda Davis played the opening 62:28 in goal for the Herons and made three saves. Dunay only needed to make one save in final 27:32. Sophomore Lexi Hutton played the first half in goal for the Brewers and made two saves. Sophomore Ali Higgins came in to play the second half and also made two saves. William Smith enjoyed a 12-6 advantage in shots, and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 9, when they host Rensselaer for another Liberty League match beginning at 2 p.m.
