Herons blank RIT

The No. 8 William Smith soccer team wrapped up its regular season this afternoon with a 2-0 win in a non-conference game against RIT. The Herons are now 13-2-2 overall, while the Tigers end their regular season with a 9-5-3 record.

Senior Brelynn Nasypany and junior Jamie Sawyer combined for both William Smith goals. Sawyer assisted on the first goal of the game that was scored by Nasypany in the 14th minute. The goal was the 51st of her career and ties her with Staci Donald ’97 for second on the William Smith program list. Nasypany is also second all-time with 130 points.

Nasypany returned the favor in the 51st minute, assisting on Sawyer’s goal to give the Herons a 2-0 lead. It was Sawyer’s first goal of the season. Nasypany now ranks third on the program list with 28 career assists.

The Herons out shot RIT, 13-3. The Tigers had just one shot on goal for the game. William Smith took 11 corner kicks to none for the Tigers. Junior goalie Ashley Valenti made five saves for RIT. Junior Amanda Davismade one save and earned her sixth shutout of the season.

William Smith will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 3, when the top-seeded Herons will host fourth-seeded Skidmore for a Liberty League Championship Semifinal game at 2:30 p.m.
