On Saturday, Nov. 13, the HWS Human Rights Collective is sponsoring “Walk for Haiti.” All of the proceeds from the walk and other fundraisers that will take place that day during and after the football game vs University of Rochester will be donated to Partners in Health to help build a medical school to train Haitian doctors.
The HWS Human Rights Collective wanted to raise money for a worthy cause and chose Haiti because the country still needs significant help in recovering from the earthquake that caused so much destruction on Jan. 12, 2010.
Additionally, the Latin American Organization (LAO), Caribbean Student Association (CSA), the HWS French Club and HWS Responds are helping with the walk and fundraisers.
Both a 50/50 raffle and a theme basket raffle will start during the football game and will end following the walk, at 6 p.m. The theme basket raffle will include J. Crew baskets, Bath and Body baskets, school supplies, gift cards, lotto tickets, and more. Raffles will be $1 per ticket and five tickets for $3.
The walk will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the field house, following the football game. There will be food, and prizes will be given to the best team.
Winners of raffle prizes will be called and can either pick up their baskets in the Center for Community Engagement and Service learning, the baskets can be delivered to winners living in Geneva.
Additionally, the French club is planning to include fundraising for Haiti in their week of French Culture.
