William Smith first-year Maggie Nash continued her strong rookie season with a 27th-place finish in the 276-runner field at the ECAC Cross Country Championship. She led the Herons to 12th place out of 39 teams, the program’s best finish since 2003 (10th).
Nash traversed the 6-kilometer course at Colt State Park in 23 minutes, 55.29 seconds. It’s her fastest 6k of the season. Classmate Meghan Gaucher was the next William Smith harrier across the line, finishing 66th and lowering her personal best time by more than a minute to 25:03.15. In 83rd place, sophomore Kelly Watters also ran a personal best, posting a time of 25:30.47.
Middlebury (21 pts) won the team title by a wide margin over second place Williams (72). Franciscan’s Nicole Krajewski was the individual champion, recording a winning time of 22:21.12, more than 2 seconds ahead of the Panthers’ Amanda Lee.
The Herons will be on the run again on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they compete in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship at Oneonta.
