Junior Gregory Ciciola scored three goals and earned two assists to lead the Hobart hockey team to a 7-2 win over host Neumann in an ECAC West game played tonight. The Statesmen improve to 1-2-1 and 1-2 in conference play. The Knights are now 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in ECAC West play.
Senior Matthew Wallace added two goals of his own. Sophomore Nick Broadwater made 40 saves in net en route to Hobart’s first win of the season.
Senior Danny Organ opened the scoring for the Statesmen just 2:36 into the game. First-year Tommy Fiorentino and sophomore Cam Miller earned the assists. Michael Rey tied the game for Neumann at one with a power play goal.
The Statesmen then went on to score three more goals in the first period. Wallace scored his first goal of the night off an assist from Ciciola. Then Ciciola scored his first goal of the game to put Hobart up 3-1. Sophomore Ryan Corcoran was credited with the assist. Senior Tommy Capalbo added a shorthanded goal 15:18 into the first to stretch Hobart’s lead to three.
Will Lacasse found the back of the net to make it 4-2 with nine second left on the clock before the first intermission.
Hobart added two goals in the second period. Wallace and Ciciola each scored power play goals to put the Statesmen up 6-2. Ciciola scored on a power play for his third goal of the game 8:36 into the third period for the 7-2 win. This time senior Patrick Moriarty and sophomore Brad Richard earned assists.
Neumann held a 42-34 edge in shots. Hobart went 4-for-11 on the power play, and the Knights were 1-for-7.
The Statesmen will return to action on Friday, Nov. 19, when they host Elmira for another ECAC West game.
