Pat McGuire, professor of economics, was featured in the Sept. 5 Finger Lakes Times, on the importance of job fairs. The Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board annual job fair will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Ramada Inn Geneva Lakefront.
“Besides bringing together employees and employers, job fairs also serve an important community service,” said McGuire, adding that “Geneva reflects the national trend of a shift away from manufacturing jobs towards service-related jobs. Because this area is home to a number of service-oriented companies, such as Waterloo Premium Outlets and Hobart and William Smith Colleges, it holds growth potential. Ontario County is doing quite well with employment growth [because] the county has been aggressive in pursuing jobs.”
