Academic honors go to Hobart soccer

The Hobart soccer team was honored with the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. Hobart is one of 195 men’s teams to earn the award, and this is the third straight year that the Statesmen have achieved this honor.

To be eligible, a team must have a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The 27 Statesmen on last fall’s roster recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.19

Additionally, ten Hobart soccer players were recently named to the 2010 Liberty League All-Academic Team:

Sophomore Stephen Bruening, biochemistry
Sophomore Reuben Burk, undeclared
Senior Justin Dotzman, architectural studies & mathematics
Sophomore Taylor Jones, undeclared
Sophomore Alex Kittelberger, computer science
Senior Kevin McCarthy, economics & history
Junior Michael Moulton, chemistry
Sophomore Andres Rios, psychology
Junior Alex Witherell, biochemistry

To earn a spot on the Liberty League All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and be at least a sophomore academically.

The Statesmen finished the 2010 season with a 7-6-4 record for their fifth consecutive winning season.
