Six different Statesmen scored to give Hobart a 6-0 win over visiting Buffalo State in a non-conference game played tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen improve to 4-3-1 overall, and the Bengals are now 6-4-2 this year.
Sophomore goaltender Nick Broadwater registered his first shutout of the season. He turned aside 27 shots. Hobart held a 40-27 advantage in shots in the game.
Sophomore Mike White started off the scoring for the Statesmen, capitalizing on a power play just 2 minutes, 14 seconds into the first period. Senior Tommy Capalbo earned the assist. First-year Tommy Fiorentino scored his second goal of the season at 5:10 to put Hobart up 2-0. White and senior Josh Taylor were credited with assists. White finished with three helpers.
The Statesmen added three more goals in the second period. Sophomore Bobby Hannah tallied his second goal of the season 10:46 in. Sophomore Cam Miller and senior Danny Organ was credited with the assists. At 12:05, sophomore David Stevens stole the puck from one of the Bengals at the blue line, and fired a shot past the goaltender for his first goal of the season. Sophomore Ryan Corcoran gave Hobart a 5-0 lead when he scored a power-play goal with two minutes remaining in the second stanza. Senior Christopher Bower and White earned the assists. After a pass from White, Organ notched the Statesmen’s final goal with 2:11 left in regulation.
Hobart was 2-for-4 on the power play, and the Bengals were 0-for-5. Kevin Carr finished with 34 saves in goal for Buffalo.
The Statesmen return to action on Saturday, Dec. 11, when they host top-ranked Oswego for another non-conference game at 7 p.m.
