Steve Sprinkle, director of the counseling center, was quoted in the Sept. 8. Hartford Courant article “Seasonal Shock: Going Back To School”.
To relieve fall school jitters and increase focus on the school year, Sprinkle suggested college students visualize the transcript they would like to have and focus on how to make those good grades happen. For freshman, though, Sprinkle said, their first concern is usually finding a niche in their new life and finding friends.
“Freshmen need to recognize that they aren't going to make two best friends during the first two weeks of classes, unless they are awfully lucky,” said Sprinkle. “Be patient with the process. There will be bumps along the way. If you try 10 or 12 things, only two or three will be meaningful.”
