The William Smith swimming and diving team is in sixth place after the first day of the Liberty League Championship meet, hosted by Union. The Herons got off to a great start, finishing second in the opening event, the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Lia Duffy, Casey Sherwin, Amanda Woods, and Lauren Morosky touched the wall in 1 minute, 42.92 seconds in the 200 free relay, just 0.07 seconds ahead of third place Rochester. Union won the event in 1:39.60.
Duffy also accounted for William Smith’s top individual finish, placing fourth in the 50 free in 25.24, just 0.01 seconds out of third place. A trio of Dutchwomen finished ahead of her led by Priscilla Wright (24.50). Sherwin was eighth in the event (25.69), while Morosky took 15th (26.50).
The Herons’ 400 medley relay team—Emily Morosky, Duffy, Heidi Gordon, and Lauren Morosky—placed sixth in 4:18.23. Rochester won the event in 4:04.32.
Diver Kaileigh Fowler was William Smith’s top performer on the 1-meter board, finishing 12th with a score of 250.75.
Union leads the team standing with a score of 293, followed by Rochester (269.5), Rensselaer (174), Vassar (142), St. Lawrence (123), William Smith (108), Skidmore (78.5), and Clarkson (50).
The Liberty League Championships will conclude on Saturday, Dec. 4, with two sessions, the first starting at 9 a.m. and the second at 4 p.m.
