Hobart sophomore guard Stefan Thompson and junior forward Matt Pebole were named to the Liberty League Men’s Basketball Team of the Week by the conference office today. For both players, it’s the fourth time this season they have received the honor.
Thompson was named to the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans All-Tournament Team after averaging a team-high 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 blocked shots for the Statesmen. He scored a team-high 17 points, grabbed five boards, and doled out a game-high four assists in a 70-65 loss to tournament host California Lutheran. In the consolation game, Thompson recorded a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds, a game-high six assists, and three steals to lead Hobart to a 67-46 victory over Gettysburg. For the week, he shot 58.3 percent from the floor, including 4-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc.
A starter in all 10 games this season, Thompson leads the Statesmen in scoring (17.5 ppg), 3-point shooting (.538), free throws made (5.3/g), assists (4.3/g), and minutes played (29.9/g). He ranks in the top 20 in the Liberty League in eight different categories, including scoring (2nd), assists (2nd), 3-point shooting (2nd), and field goal percentage (7th, .500).
Pebole averaged 15.5 points, a team-high 9.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in California. He scored 15 points, collected six boards, and dished out three assists against the Kingsmen. Pebole recorded a double-double on 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while handing out four assists against the Bullets. For the week, he shot 50 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
Also a starter in all 10 games this season, Pebole is producing 16.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, and 1.1 apg, while shooting .484 from the floor, .400 from beyond the 3-point arc, and .826 at the free throw line. He ranks in the top 10 in the Liberty League in scoring (4th), rebounding (6th), free throw shooting (7th), and field goal percentage (10th, .484).
The Statesmen (7-3) will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when they host Potsdam (2-6). Tipoff in Bristol Gym is scheduled for 7 p.m. WHWS-FM (105.7) will broadcast the game.
