Statesmen ranked in poll

The Hobart College hockey team broke into the latest poll, ranking 15th this week. The Statesmen won the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic title last week, and are 7-3-1 this season.

On Thursday in the tournament’s opening round against Wis.-Stevens Point, Hobart rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the first period with three second period goals. The Statesmen went on to defeat the Pointers 6-3. Seven different players recorded two points in the game. Senior Matthew Wallace registered two goals, including the eighth short-handed goal of his career which tied the Hobart record set by Nick DeCroo ’10. Wallace leads the Statesmen with nine goals and 14 points this season.

Hobart edged Hamilton 2-1 in the championship game on Friday. Senior Christopher Bower scored the game-winning goal with 6 minutes, 34 seconds left in the final period. Bower was named the tournament MVP. Sophomore goalie Nick Broadwater made 24 saves against Wis.-Stevens Point, and turned aside 35 shots in the win over the Continentals. He also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Broadwater has started all 11 games this year and is sporting 2.27 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
