Hobart hockey returns to national poll

The Hobart hockey team is ranked 14th in this week’s USCHO.com poll. It is the highest ranking that the Statesmen have received this season.

The Statesmen (11-4-1) were receiving votes last week, and were selected No. 15 two weeks ago. Hobart scored a combined 15 goals in their two wins this weekend. The Statesmen defeated Curry 8-1 on Saturday, and cruised to a 7-2 win over Nichols on Sunday.

Senior Matthew Wallace is leading Hobart with 14 goals and 22 points this season. Junior Gregory Ciciola is right behind him with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. Sophomore Nick Broadwater has started all but one game in goal, and is sporting a .932 save percentage and a 2.13 goals against average this year.

After seven straight games on the road, the Statesmen return to Geneva for alumni weekend. The annual alumni game will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at The Cooler. The current Statesmen will then take on Morrisville in a non-conference game that evening at 7 p.m. at The Cooler.

WHWS-FM (105.7) will broadcast the game. Fans can also follow the action online with Live Stats.
