Rimmerman Quoted on Gay Marriage Issue in Presidential Election

Craig Rimmerman, professor of political science, was quoted in the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News article “Gay marriage a hot-button issue in presidential race.” The story said gay marriage is the biggest social issue in the 2004 election, and that polls show Americans believe in equal rights for all citizens, but remain conflicted on whether they want to include same-sex marriage in that equation.

“We're uncomfortable with the idea of challenge to traditional institutions like marriage,” said Rimmerman.”People are simply uncomfortable with the idea of same-sex marriage. It's a hot-button issue.”

The same article ran in the Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn., and the Myrtle Beach Sun News, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
