Bauer ’83 Named Publisher of Yachting

Bob Bauer ’83, P’13 has recently been name publisher of Yachting magazine, a monthly publication of the Bonnier Corporation. Bauer began working with Yachting in 1992 as the director of sports marketing before serving as the northeast sales manager and a regional manager. For the past three years he has been serving as Yachting‘s advertising director.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead this brand that I’ve had the pleasure to work with for the past 18 years,” said Bauer. “When I began, of course, it was just a magazine, but now with the combination of the digital and print magazine, mobile, Web and events, my goal is to create a global brand that is unrivaled in the marine marketplace.”

Bauer has been working in the magazine business for more than 26 years. Prior to Yachting, he worked with several magazines including Cruising World and Golf Illustrated.

Yachting magazine was founded in 1907 and is one of the marine industry’s oldest and most respected publications. The magazine strives to provide its 1.2 million readers with coverage of premium yachts, technology, design, seamanship, destinations, electronics, equipment, exotic charters, current events and history of the sport.

“Bob was the natural choice to lead the brand going forward,” said Glenn Hughes, VP, Group Publisher of Bonnier’s marine and aviation titles. “He has played a key role as advertising director over the last several years and has the respect of the sales and editorial teams, as well as the industry.”

The Bonnier Corporation ranks in the top 10 nationally among publishing companies and has nearly 50 special-interest magazines under its name. The corporation is the U.S. division of the Bonnier Group, a 200 year-old family-owned media group based in Sweden and operating business in over 25 countries. Bonnier Corporation is known for its quality writing, design, photography and editorial excellence.

While at Hobart, Bauer was a member of fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa and captain of the swimming team.
